Dubbeldam Design Architects (DDA) was founded by Heather Dubbeldam as a multi-disciplinary design architecture practice with a focus on contemporary modern design. Projects include architecture as well as interiors, landscape design, lighting and furniture design. The practice operates in a studio setting using a collaborative approach to projects with other architects as well as designers from other disciplines, and pursues a rigourous level of detail and craft. Each project entails a high degree of involvement from design through to construction, with the architectural team working closely with contractors during construction to maintain tight control of project quality and detail.
DDA was recently awarded Best Emerging Practice by the Ontario Association of Architects and is recognized as one of the leading young practices in Toronto.
DDA strives for an innovative approach in all aspects of work including experimentation with building materials, building form and spatiality. Without any preconceived style or convention, each project is derived from its unique set of circumstances. Careful consideration of context and budget are undertaken throughout each project, with an emphasis on the specific needs and aspirations of each client. The Firm advocates the use of sustainable building practices as a matter of course including: renewable or recycled materials; promoting reuse of building elements as well as facilities within, with the dual objective of waste and cost reduction; utilizing efficient and sustainable energy systems; and incorporating green roof installations wherever possible. It is DDA’s objective to produce contemporary architecture of the highest quality and design while still allowing a life/work balance for all members of the firm.
